DESCRIPTION

Working closely with the Director of Business Development and Facilities, the Facilities Manager will be accountable for the safety and compliance of our facilities to relevant legislation and Alberta Health Services requirements. This is a position that has an exciting and wide scope encompassing project planning and management, building development or renovations, management of internal and external teams, as well as all aspects of building maintenance. As with all other leaders of Wing Kei, the Facilities Manager is relied upon to model our corporate values, be conscientious and resourceful with budgets and expenses as well as lead team members with a  person/family-centered approach.

 

THE ROLE

Key Accountabilities

  • Demonstrate, promote and advocate the Wing Kei vision, mission and core values in day-to-day operations
  • Ensures effective maintenance of Wing Kei’s facilities, with priority being safety in each environment and compliance with relevant government legislations and standards
  • Assists Director of Business Development and Facilities to implement corporate facilities plan including builds and renovations, project planning, supplier/vendor sourcing and relations, procurement and management of furniture and equipment; as well as transitioning from project to fully-operational phase
  • Manages Capital budget; manages on-site work orders and requests; recommends repair and/or replacement based on sound judgement
  • Regularly analyzing and assessing efficiency, reporting significant findings from system reports to Director of Business Development and Facilities
  • Leads own team in preventative and safety measures related to our facilities, ensuring repair and maintenance work is completed responsively and promptly; mentors own team members in critical thinking and prioritizing
  • Manages resources with integrity; creating and managing budgets, policies, procedures as required
  • Coordinates and leads as required regular exterior and interior building inspection; monitors facility security and infection controls, as well as conducts emergency response training/dry runs
  • Oversees procurement and inventory control for facilities
  • Provides effective service to other departments; demonstrates strong teamwork and collaboration

THE INDIVIDUAL WHO WILL SUCCEED 

  • Is aligned with Wing Kei’s corporate vision, mission and core values
  • Has 5+ years’ experience in each of: 1) facilities operation management or project management role relating to builds or renovations; AND 2) people management
  • Post-secondary education preferred; willing to pursue professional development/certification as required
  • Passion for excellence in building and “fixing”; manages well through solving both complex and day-to-day issues; knowledge of government regulations in building trades, familiar with occupational hazards and safety precautions in facilities management
  • Exhibits consistent critical thinking and problem solving skills; resourceful in emergent / urgent situations
  • Demonstrates strong capability to prioritize requests and meet deadlines; maintains positive attitude and professionalism in fielding requests/ questions competing for the team’s time and attention
  • Proven effective communication skills; ability to communicate in Chinese an asset but not required
  • Proficiency in Office software required; experience with maintenance-care software preferred
