Wing Kei Village Phase One Sod-Turning Ceremony

On Friday, October 27th, Wing Kei was blessed by the attendance of over 150 members of the community who joined to celebrate a special milestone, the Wing Kei Village Phase I Sod-Turning Ceremony.

The ceremony included honoured guests, such as Acting Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Xiusheng, Minister of Municipal Affairs, Ric McIver, MLA Calgary-Klein, Lizette Tejada, MLA Calgary-Mountainview, Kathleen Ganley, MLA Calgary-Buffalo, Joe Ceci, Ward 7 Councillor, Terry Wong, Ward 4 Councillor, Sean Chu, Alberta Health Services Executive Director for Seniors Palliative and Continuing Care for Calgary Zone, Lesley Myles, and dear friends of Wing Kei, former MLAs, Bob Hawkesworth, Jason Copping, Jeremy Nixon, Gary Mar, Teresa Woo-Paw, and former Mayor Al Duerr. We would also like to thank MP Len Webber and Premier Danielle Smith for sending letter greetings to commemorate this sod-turning ceremony.

We would also like to appreciate and thank Jing Wo Cultural Association and the Calgary Chinese Oratorio Society for their wonderful performances at our event.

The Wing Kei Village Phase One will have 180 beds, which includes hospice care and continuing care with dedicated memory care spaces. The new facility will feature rich amenities like a bright sunroom dining and activity area on each floor, expansive outdoor green space, indoor chapel and garden, and a Montessori school to provide an intergenerational environment where seniors and children can interact.

This new and innovative facility will cost an estimated $85 million to build and plans to open in January 2026. We are happy to launch the Circle of Joy capital campaign for the Wing Kei Village, which needs the help of the community to join our circle and raise $5 million over the next three years. Our special thanks as well to Kane Ng, a former family member and an enthusiastic supporter of Wing Kei, for providing a heartwarming story and emphasizing the importance for community support to help Wing Kei provide homes for more seniors.
